Re: Controversial Opinions (Non-fandom, non-politics)
(Anonymous) 2020-08-28 10:07 am (UTC)(link)... why? A lot of people have no interest in owning a house. Houses are a ton of work, they're expensive, and if you own a place it's much more complicated to just up and move than it is if you're renting.
Personally, I don't want a house. I don't want to have to be responsible for mowing the lawn and shoveling snow and raking leaves and cleaning gutters, I don't want to have to clean (or pay someone else to clean) an entire house that I'm only really going to use maybe three or four rooms out of anyway, the heating and cooling bills for a house are a big no thanks, and I much prefer having maintenance on call for whenever something goes wrong. I for one am very glad people own and rent out properties they aren't living in.

(Anonymous) 2020-08-28 11:30 am (UTC)(link)That said, a lot of your objections seem to be based on the presumption that when OP said "property" they meant "free-standing house." A property can be a condo. No mowing, shoveling, raking, or gutters. It can be a small, well-insulated condo, if too much extra space and high heating bills are not your scene.
Re: Controversial Opinions (Non-fandom, non-politics)
(Anonymous) 2020-08-28 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)My sister owns a condo, and when her washing machine died, she was the one who had to consult with the repair company, pay to have them come out and look at it to see if it could be repaired, and then do all the research into a new one, buy it, and arrange to have it delivered and installed. When you rent, all of those things are the responsibility of your landlord, not you. My fridge started acting up several months ago and maintenance came and took care of all of that for me. Plus, if I ever decide I want to move, all I have to do is choose not to renew my lease. I don't have to find a real estate agent, pay them money, etc. etc.
