I don't know much about Power Rangers, but do they really have the one black character in black and the one Asian character in yellow? Really?

This is from the early '90s Power Rangers (I think it was the first one) and yes, they unfortunately did. I don't think they do anymore though.

There was a whole string of reasonable-in-isolation(-but-oh-god-the-aggregate-result) decisions that led to it happening and by the time anyone on production realized they'd already filmed multiple episodes

Whether this changes anything is of course debatable

I think I was in kindergarten when this show aired and I know I watched it, but I don't remember a whole lot about it except that Tommy was my favorite one because he was evil, then good, and he wore my favorite colors.

I've never been much of a Tommy fan, but you like what you like - sometimes relationship dynamics trump character preference. I've had that happen before, though not with Power Rangers, for me, it's Billy/Jason.

Gosh, it's so weird. When I was a kid watching this show I totally believed they were teenagers (probably because high schoolers looked so much 'older' to me at the time anyway) and now that I'm looking at them I'm like, "wow gosh, they totally look like adults here."

I legit wrote my reply before I read this, and it's absolutely true. NONE of these actors look anything like a teenager--and certainly not a teen from the 90's. What in the actual hell... Nostalgia has been hit with a bat. I _REALLY_ saw this with rose-coloured glasses. Wow.

SO this whole time, I thought Tommy was the Red Ranger, because he gave me leader vibes, and the Red Ranger was the leader. For all of my childhood, Tommy was my boyfriend, but I called him by my father's name, because I couldn't remember his actual name lol. And now I learn he was origianlly the evil green ranger, and eventually the white ranger! I was so in love with him lmao

Learning his transition from evil to good may help explain why I like villainous guys (esp. those with a transformative arc).

Lol Tommy was my boyfriend too and me and my friends would fight over him on the playground (except for my one friend who liked Jason). Him turning good was my favorite part of Power Rangers.

Not entirely related, but I didn't remember these actors looking so aged back in the day. Is that weird? I'm looking at Billy going "that most definitely looks like a man in his 30's trying to play a teenager." So much for Nostalgia...

I was thinking the same thing! I had a huge crush on Billy when I was a kid and thought he looked like a senior in high school. Looking at this picture, I’m wondering why I ever thought that because he definitely looks like a high school teacher, not a high school student.

Hah! A fellow Billy-crusher! but now I'm like "Oh Dear... Tommy has a receeding hairline, Billy is sporting the kind of Dad Face that makes me think of bad jokes and baseball, Trini looks almost exactly like a lady I worked with who had four dogs and twin boys (who are both graduating this year), and YIKES. Kimberly is definitely struggling there. If these are teenagers, they'll all dealing with some serious aging illnesses. Must be a side effect of the radiation that must come with wearing power suits and so on."
