I think everyone acts without thinking at some time in their life or other

To be fair, most people's little mistakes don't endanger other people's lives...

That's just bad luck.

I agree that what Sissy did was incredibly stupid, but I also think it's hard to just stop loving someone, even someone who made a dangerous mistake. I don't think Vanya got too upset with her because there was so much else going on.

Leaving a note was, to me, just indicative that Sissy couldn't really believe that Carl would follow through on any threats (which she'd also only heard about second-hand). She always seemed certain on him being fundamentally decent until the very last moment when he did try to take Harlan away from her. I think she saw him as a good guy who got a bad hand with her and Harlan, and was willing to be understanding beyond what most people would put up with. What he did to Vanya hurt her a lot but I suspect she was probably blaming herself more than him - he was the cuckold. It's only when he grabs Harlan to leave that she gives up on him deserving any sympathy from her.

This. I feel like people aren't giving Sissy enough credit for the situation she was in and the culture she'd been raised in. That's HARD to pull away from.
