You're definitely not alone tbh, a lot of fanon ship-squee is fan-goggles pure and simple, add that into an echochamber with a monumental amount of wishful thinking and things quickly spiral into the outright delusional very quickly. It's why I take any insistence at something being 'so gay' with a massive grain of salt because most of the time it isn't, and in some cases I'd hesitate to call the pair in question friends in the canon.

Whether you're neurotypical or not is not something I can answer, but I wouldn't use fandom as an indicator for it as a large number of people are willfully misinterpreting the canon for their own wants.
