I don't understand your 'making money off of fanworks is bad' argument.

You say in your secret that these characters were very much unlike their canon selves. You actually seem quite disparaging about it.

So if the characters were so unlike their canon selves in that AU, why does it matter that the writer is switching to turning them into fully blown OC's???

Sounds to me like they've realised that they really like the world that they created in that fic and have decided to strike out. They've deleated their old accounts and moved on to better things.

They aren't making money from fanworks.

The character choices stem from a lot of widely accepted fanon that has very little basis in canon, and while the characters may not have resembled their canonical counterparts, they resemble their widely accepted fanon depictions. The ship dynamics for each of the 3 ships match up exactly with the widely popular depictions of the dynamics of the 3 juggernaut pairings (canonically, none of these characters are romantically involved). No matter how much they change the names, anyone who's spent even a short time in the fandom would be able to instantly identify the fandom's favorite ships upon being presented with the story.

The AU setting was really well done - the author absolutely deserves credit for that, and for the plot. But the characters are absolutely recognizable.
