I hate song remakes where they slow the beat way down and make a depressing, pathetic, slow as fuck mess out of what WAS a really good song. This happens frequently in US commercials and makes me STABBY. They've done it for Mr. Roger's "People In Your Neighborhood" and there's this godawful one--I can't even tell you what the fuck they're advertising--where they slowed down Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" and turned it into the slowest, whiniest piece of fuckshit. I change the channel every time, lol. So petty.

Makes me glad I don't have cable televis-- WTF? Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood?? The fuck could they possibly have been selling?

That one has something to do with homeless veterans. Which, yeah, they get a bum deal when they come home from war so fucked up that they wind up homeless but again, shouldn't our fucking government (USA! USA! USA!) be fixing this problem? Yes, yes it should be, but ya know, bootstraps and 'Murrkuh and we need a dozen more billion dollar ships/planes/bombs rather than try to help a few bums who used to be marines or whatever, so in the meantime here's a fucked up Mr. Rogers song used in a commercial for y'all.

Sorry man, I'm just bitter today, lol.

IA. I can't remember what video it's in, but Todd in the Shadows had a rant I liked about how a slowed down cover of Robyn's "Dancing on My Own" defeated the purpose of the song. Sometimes faster songs are just better.

I hope he wasn't talking about Kings Of Leon's cover, because it is fucking phenomenal.

AYRT - No, it was the Calum Scott version (though Wikipedia is telling me his version maybe kind of rips off the KOL cover).

The "I Will Survive" ad is about businesses doing what they can to survive in this pandemic.

I'm definitely sympathetic to businesses, particularly small ones, that are struggling during this time, but yeah, that's a rather odd song choice. Especially since they take this song that's meant to be a show of strength and defiance and slow it down and make it sound sad and depressing. That...kind of defeats the purpose of the message they want to send.

I hated the remake of Layla for the same reason, although I don't think it was used in any commercial.

I hate that too, it's like the annoying opposite world version of when 'dance remixes' take a perfectly good ballad and add a random pulsing beat to the background and then speed it up slightly, making a formally good song suck. There are some songs where tempo changes can work but it usually involves more care than just 'speed it up/slow it down.'
