Yeah, there was this one really awful fantasy series I read. (I forget the title, but the author turned out to be a plagiarist who made false claims ranging from “I was a champion fencer” to “Ben Bova read my work and loved it.”) A character gets a monologue about how it was the right and honorable thing to not kill a helpless opponent, and the fact that opponent escaped and is going to kill again doesn’t change anything.
