I mean... is any movie truly made with gif-ability and meme-ability in mind? They're made to have memorable imagery and moments, sure. But I don't think that's quite the same thing. People who make movies aren't really as with it re: the internet as you might think.

Me too. I really crave more action/adventur stories like it, with an ensemble cast all of whom have interesting relationships.

Having said that, The Untamed felt a lot fresher to me than more recent Western attempts at similar stories - because it didn't have any gratiuitous violence, gore, nudity and sex, and it didn't use the, by now, cliche fantasy tropes you get in Western stuff.

Same. I don't completely share her opinions but I let her have them and try to just enjoy her books. Polanski sucks but I still love Repulsion and Rosemary's Baby and no one will take them away from me.

I think people also disagree with the underlying ethical argument that it's better to avoid killing and remain morally pure and not enter onto the path of being a villain and all of the rest of that, than it is to kill someone to ultimately save a greater number of lies. Even when the trope is well-executed, it still tends to rely on that basic moral argument.

And that's not intrinsically a bad thing, and it's definitely a more appropriate point of view for some genres. But it's also definitely not a position that everyone shares.

I watched it.

I honestly thought it didn't go hard enough on the fact that what those girls "had" to do was bad. It didn't really seem to condemn hyper-sexualization of girls very much at all, just at a very surface level. Meanwhile the camera is practically ramming itself into a 12-year-old's vagina.

Idk. It upset me, but not in the way I expected it to. I really thought it would show their situation as brutal and sad, but... it wouldn't do it. It wouldn't take the glitz off enough. And that disturbed me.
