This movie probably fails to do what it sets out to do. But it's telling that the criticism in the US is spearheaded, although not solely, from conservatives who love toddlers and tiaras, and I think there's some dissonance of criticism like "you're normalizing" when that something has already been normalized and which normalization had virtually no pushback. at least the cinematic audience to the girls doesn't actually think their dancing is entertaining.

The secondary narrative that part of the reason this sexualization is attractive to girls is because of cultural repression, was always going to be divisive.
