There is a difference between "furry" and "zoophile". You can be neither, both, or one-or-the-other, but they are not the same thing. End of story.

Zoophilia is attraction to normal animals (i.e. the four-legged types) and although there are a fair share of them in furry fandom, not all furries are zoophiliacs. Some just like anthromorphic animals for non-sexual reaons. Others like them for sexual reasons.

Uhh...I'm not the most observant scientist in the lab here, but even I know that zoophilia and the furry fetish aren't quite the same thing. The whole furry bit is closer to other forms of sexual roleplay (or roleplay in general--I mean, ever heard of "otherkin?"). It's...really fucking weird, I'll grant you, but consentual sex between human adults is totally different from puppy raping.

I don't doubt that there are individuals who indulge in the fetish as well as the paraphilia, but that's certainly the exception as opposed to the rule. Sure, if you know a puppy raper, call them out, report them to the SPCA, kick their ass, whatevs. Leave the rest of the furries to their own devices, it's not like they're going to cause every kitten in a twenty-mile radius to spontaneously combust. =/

I don't feel the need to do the costume thing, because it's not the fact that they're ~omganimals~ that's attractive, it's the fact that they're attractive and happen to be animals. If people find animal characters with human characteristics -- and, uh, yeah, Simba the fucking lion is more like a human being than any lion, use your brain a minute -- attractive and two consenting adults decide to dress up and have sex, good for them. It doesn't hurt a goddamn thing.

I find a fictional mouse, a fictional cat... erm, doll, and several fictional frogs highly attractive. I've had crushes on animal characters portrayed as people for a long time. Guess what? I don't want to have sex with a goddamned animal. Bestiality is sick and wrong exactly because they cannot consent. Fictional "animals," though? That get loved on by furries? Surprise surprise -- they're portrayed as PEOPLE WHO CAN CONSENT!

It's amazing how this works. Learn a little bit more about the "QUOTE UNQUOTE subculture" before thinking the fact that YOU were in it and apparently wanted to have sex with your dog is representative of an entire subset of fandom.

I don't like furries. I think the whole concept of anthropomorphic animals fucking is disgusting and the costumes disturbing, etc, etc.

But they have the right to do what they want as long as it's not harming anyone, and in no way is the furry fandom I've seen (I do have friends who are into it) like zoophilia. As far as I know, in fact, they're wholly against that stuff.
