1. She is unusually perfect and more advanced, also befriends
or becomes romantically entangled with the favorite character/characters from the series. Because she is more
superior than the other characters in the work, she mainly becomes the focus of the story, thus ruining whatever
the story was about.
2. A female character who is so perfect that she is annoying. Mary-Sues are characters who are usually extraordinarily gorgeous, amazingly talented, unusually powerful, and exceedingly attractive.
3. She usually serves as an important part in a pivotal plot element (ie: a prophecy) and becomes romantically involved with a favorite character in the story.
4. If they are a side character, they can sometimes take the spotlight.
If it walks like a Sue and talks like a Sue...

In fact I think it's great that the main female characters of many stories are written off as Mary Sues when no one ever calls the sap of a romantic guy who becomes her love interest a Gary Stu. Yes, female hate. Great way to go.

She's only talented at her job like every other angel. (Oh wait, I forgot. Only men can have talent at their jobs Women cook and clean, yes?)
5.) Again with the pivotal plot element = Mary Sue. How many man play pivotal plot roles in stories? Castiel is a Gary Stu like WHOA according to your definition. Oh right, everyone loves him because he has a dick.
6.) She didn't take any spotlight.

2. Their definition, not mine. I thought the whole Dean/Anna story was ridiculous. Female hate? Dumbass! I AM a female!
3. WTF!? Not the focus of the story? Did you watch the same episode I did? Whole damn thing about her.
4. She wasn't like every other angel. She was a boss angel. (Again, dumbass, I AM A FEMALE!!)
5.Not everyone loves Castiel. Everyone who does like him likes him for some other reason than his dick. Maybe because he came on as badass and useful, not a damsel in distress.
