I get criticized for thinking Betsy Fucking DeVos is a bigger threat than Rowling's twitter.

First of all, what does that have to do with it being a shibboleth

Second, even while it's true that DeVos is more threatening than Rowling, there are absolutely ways that you can phrase that idea that are extremely shitty. For instance, if someone were to come into a conversation about JK Rowling being bad and tell everyone that they need to shut the fuck up and stop talking about JKR when DeVos is so much worse, I think that would be an example of something that would merit criticism. So I think the context is important.

Failing to consider Rowling an activism priority is evidently a litmus test for transphobia in some circles.

I am going to be honest, I'm dubious.

I've seen people talking about Rowling on social media, and I've seen broad activism to defend the rights of trans people inspired by Rowling, but I don't think either of those things is remotely the same as saying that Rowling herself is an activism priority. Let alone that this is a litmus test for transphobia.

I think "shut the fuck up" is a perfectly reasonable response to being expected to talk about JKR's transphobia on a regular basis for months now.

if you just don't want to see or talk about JKR, word-mute "JKR" and "Rowling" and go about your life normally

coming into conversations and telling people to shut the fuck up about JKR, and then acting like an aggrieved victim of cancel culture when they tell you to fuck off, is a much dumber course of action to choose
