But this wasn't the movie he originally wanted to make, this is what happened after the first movie was cursed.

True, but the fact remains that after all this time, after all these years, after literal decades, Terry Gilliam couldn't get anyone to back the movie he wanted to make. I find this beyond telling. He is either A., such a massive fucking egomaniac/asshole that even an institution like "Hollywood" wouldn't throw him a bone (just look at all the flop movies that HAVE been made according to the director's ~artistic vision~), or B., completely delusional and entitled that backers should just trust him and fork over their funding for a movie that was practically guaranteed to be a money pit flop in the first place, because ~art~. So he does...whatever TMWKDQ was, out of, what, spite? Who knows. And Adam Driver was a literal child, single digits in age, when Gilliam started working on this thing, which I thought about a lot when watching it, like, THIS? After three decades, THIS????!!! I mean, why make it at all if it's not what you want? If the end result is such overhyped mediocrity as this thing was, just why?
