I get the frustration because you were in the middle of reading it, but it's the author's work to do with what s/he wants, even if it's obviously inspired by something else. There are TONS of characters that are obviously inspired by other characters (like Dana Scully was inspired by Clarice Starling or Lucy Gray Baird from the new HG prequel is probably inspired by Stevie Nicks). I get that it's a little more specific than that, but think about that Rainbow Rowell HP book or 50 Shades of Gray or that teen trilogy that's based on Hermione Granger. Fiction is built on other fiction.

I just can't imagine getting this pressed over a fic. WIPs I read get discontinued all the time, and more often than not it's just the authors getting bored and quitting, not even because they thought they could make a living off of it.
