You can be the biggest actor in the world and still not feel like you can say no to a Woody Allen or Roman Polanski film. I think it's easy to forget how super influential they were in the film industry.

IDK. I can understand why she didn't say no, she might have felt like there was no way she could say no.

I'm really skeptical that this is true. They're big name directors, sure. But there are definitely actors who've spoken out against Allen, for example, and still have careers.

It's not really about a fear of losing a career it's more in line with imposter syndrome. Do you think you're a good enough and important enough actor to turn down a role in a Woody Allen or Roman Polanski film? They're career defining directors, just look at their back catalogue and how many of their films are consistently put on lists of best films of all time.

I don't know what a non-film industry equivalent would be.

This seems like a huuuuuuuuge reach to try and excuse Kate Winslet and all the other well known actors with established careers who decided they wanted to work with assholes like Woody Allen and Roman Polanski anyway.

Roman Polanski has made some of the best and most influential films of all time, like seriously, take a look at lists of the best films of all time and his work comes up multiple times. Any actor has got to be faced with a seriously hard decision not to work with him when the film could very well be the most career-defining film they'll ever appear in.

Yes, and more to the point, this is WHY it's horrible when influential people are harassers: a lot of people feel like they can't say no to them. Criticizing someone who went along with it and now regrets it is blaming the victim. Victims don't have to be as pure as the driven snow to count as victims (thinking so is just another form of misogyny).

This sounds like BS to me. Kate Winslet absolutely did not have to work with them. She was not victimized by doing so. She just complied with their continued existence in the film industry by helping them make movies and propping them up. She helped them by defending them in the press (even mentioning the allegations in one comment that I read her making). She used them to further her career and in doing so invalidated the suffering of their victims, just like every other prick who smiles in pictures with them and acts like they're class acts.

How do you feel about women who stood by Johnny Depp before the allegations against him were proven false? The allegations against Woody Allen have been questioned by Dylan's own siblings, who were witnesses on the day he allegedly abused her. No other victim has ever come forward, which is strange for pedophiles, who are typically repeat offenders. I don't blame people for assuming the allegations are false. In the case of Johnny Depp, their hunch was correct, in the case of Woody Allen, we will never know.
