Okay, wow. No. No. You are being entitled. The last time wasn't clear and you answered my question of "would an outsider know these were inspired by X canon characters?" And the answer to that is clearly "no."

At this point, it's original work. The author has put a lot of effort into it. Yes, she's still trying to cater to her fandom base, good for her, but if someone from outside came in, they wouldn't know and might enjoy it if they enjoy those ship dynamics.

They won't KNOW the choices are based on any "fanon" interpretation of a "canon" character, because they won't know there is a fanon or canon to be read. The actions won't read OOC to them. They'll just read as ACTIONS. They'll hopefully enjoy the story.

Plus, people enjoy familiar stories or the amount of fairy tale retellings from everything "regency romance" to "IN SPACE" wouldn't be a thing.

Have you EVER queried? Or are you just a reader? As an indie author who has queried, let me tell you, the amount of agents supposedly looking for the next GRRM is ASTONISHING. (But at the same time, you can't comp GRRM b/c a) he's established, b) the book is too old and c) it's too generic of a comp now.)

Go to a twitter pitch party. The amount of pitches that are two major fandoms being smashed together are EVERYWHERE. I've personally reviewed TWO indie books that do this, one was the Big Bang Theory & Star Wars, and the other was Buffy Season 5 & the X-Men. People want "Safe" things they've already enjoyed once and can only take so much "twist" at a time. Or else the weird/scifi western would be a bigger thing. So indies use these big properties to try and entice people to read their stuff b/c "it's like stuff you already like." And there are way, way too many books being published to stand out in a crowd otherwise.

This isn't hurting anyone. Stories don't exist in a vacuum. I hope you can find it in you to support them if you can.
