I'd cast someone younger than Tatum.

That's what I was thinking. If this is truly like Weird Science, you'd want to cast someone two high school aged female geeks would think of as their ideal man. Would that really be Channing Tatum? And not like... I don't know, Harry Styles or one of the guys from BTS or something like that? (IDK, I'm not in high school, either.)

You're dealing with high school girl fantasy here, not ideal high school relationship, so it could go either way.

Yeah, but Rebel Wilson is 40 and Gabourey Sidibe is 37. In the original, the teens were actually played by teens, and Kelly LeBrock was 25 (I thought she was older but I was pretty young when I first saw it on TV, the wonderful version with the badly dubbed out swearing). I think a case could be made for someone younger, but I also think one could be made for someone older.

If it were Wilson and Sidibe (and maybe we make the characters adults instead of pretending they are teenagers) then Tatum works. If we were going with a version where the characters are supposed to be actual high schoolers, then I'm not so sure about Tatum. It's not even just his age (which is a few months younger than me, btw, so I'm not going "Ew, he's forty!") but like the other anon touched upon - is he even someone current teens thirst after?

It would depend on how they worked it, honestly. Teens crushed on Alan Rickman during the Harry Potter years, and he wasn't exactly Tiger Beat material at that point.
