FWIW, I smoke myself, and sometimes include it in fanworks, and don't think there's anything at all wrong with being uncomfortable with seeing that in fics (though it sounds like it might be a frustrating experience for you in fandom sometimes, unfortunately). I'm sorry it comes up in fic a lot, especially since I know tons of people don't tend to content warn for it. Your reasons for disliking it make complete sense to me!

For me, sometimes it bothers me a lot more to see fic where characters I care about do things that would annoy me at most for someone to do IRL, because it's a character that's important to me, and something I'm reading to unwind. It feels more in my personal space than a random person making their own decisions about doing that thing, even though it's not real, IDK. It's not exactly rational, but for me, it can make the difference of whether I enjoy a fic or not.
