Yeah, because if Rey were male, Disney wouldn't have touched that ship with a 50 ft pole. I didn't care for Reylo myself, but I really didn't give much of a second thought to it until TLJ started making it canon, especially with how hard Disney was pushing Rey as a role model for little girls. Abusive and creepy dynamics in a fandom ship? Whatever, YKINMYK. In a huge, massive pop culture movie with a character being blatantly used as The Empowering Stand In for women and little girls? Maybe I'm wrong, but I think a lot of the strong anti-Reylo shit started around then too, so maybe other people shared my feelings on the matter.
