I love food. Loving descriptions of food, characters who make food, food that's symbolic or in some way significant - that's the good stuff.
I like the loving descriptions of food in Kerry Greenwood's books, particularly the Corinna Chapman books; I have a special place in my heart for the German film "Bella Martha", and the scenes where the main character talks to her therapist about food - she talks about food as an alternative to talking about her feelings, but of course, her feelings come through very clearly.

I strongly suggest the Antique Bakery manga. The main characters all work in a patisserie and the images of the food are gorgeous. They even go into depth describing it.

Oh, and I forgot- the covers in the original US print had scratch-and-sniff covers.

AYRT - have you seen "Dungeon Meshi" or "Delicious in Dungeon"? It's about a trio of adventurers who go into a massive underground dungeon to save a friend, but because there's such a tight time limit they can't get supplies first.
Luckily they meet a dwarf who has spent years working out how to cook basically every type of monster around, so they proceed to eat their way through the monster manual!
Obviously all the main ingredients are fictional, but there's a lot of real-world cooking knowledge in there.

If you haven't watched "Babette's Feast" you need to do that asap. It's about a woman who used to be a chef but now works as a housekeeper for some old ladies who belong to a small, kind of Shaker-esque religious group that believes in living simply and frugally, and one day she gets a bunch of money from her nephew and decides to cook the community a fancy feast like they've never had in their lives

AYRT - oh, I'll make a note, thanks
