Re: What Was The Single Most Devastating Moment In Fandom For You?

When fandom left LJ and went to tumblr instead of coming here or some other platform. Tumblr really sucked the fun out of it for me, to the point that I don’t see myself ever engaging in a fannish community again.

Man, agreed, but like... I thought Tumblr was bad, but the migration to Twitter was worse. I can't believe how bad the state of fandom is now.

I like tumblr well enough in combination with LJ. Tumblr is a great archiving/sharing platform, imo. But as the primary fandom platform, yeah, I hate it.

Urgh same here :( although I go onto tumblr to look up fandom works and updates - I barely ever interact with anyone on there in the same ways as I did pre-2012 LJ. And I specify 2012 because literally all of the fandom communities I was following at the time stopped dead in that year with the exception of the naruto comm (and those were only updates from the mods to talk about the manga updates right up until it officially finished).

I kind of feel this too. The funny part is, now people on tumblr or Twitter are complaining how different fandom and fandom interactions are. I'm like, well, um, yeah. Y'all changed the damn format and made it difficult to communicate (or at least VERY different).

I do tumblr but haven't really interacted with fandom stuff there in a very long time. I miss LJ and hate that one of my favorite comms that was still relatively active in the 2010s "migrated" to a toxic, hypocritical comm of haters and whiners. I signed on to fandom related comms here but either lost interest or the comms died. So I guess for now I do discord and F!S, which is fine for general fandom stuff, but not the same for specific fandoms.
