First and foremost, John Carpenter movies. I actually think #1 on my list is The Fog, because it comes closest to what I think are the perfect Halloween vibes - spooky and misty and foggy and cursed by ancient legends, but more of a ghost story than a gorefest. Obviously Halloween and the Thing, and also Prince of Darkness, which rules in a super 1980s scifi.

Also Practical Magic and Hocus Pocus and the book of Haunting of Hill House and Winter Tides by James Blaylock which is a ghost story I like a lot
