It comes down to people having their own shit to deal with and are too busy dealing with their own lives to riot in the streets every time someone's feelings are hurt. Most people just care about themselves and their small circle. That is how life works.

It doesn't help when you ask the people who are upset, and not trans, why they are angry a good number of them can't pin down why what she said was so offensive. They make it sound like less of an issue then some trans people want to make it.

I don't think it's reasonable to read too much into the fact that many people on social media are chronically ill-informed

It is mostly only people on social media having issues with her. A few news articles have been published but her books are still top sellers, her movies are still being played, etc.... No one else seems to care.

To be clear, there are many people on social media who are able to clear critiques that specify why they consider what JKR said objectionable
