I feel this way too sometimes. This was why I hated Remus/Sirius back in the day. It wasn't canon, it wasn't "almost canon." And people insisting it was made me go from not shipping to actively anti-shipping.

I was never invested in this ship, but from the way fandom portrayed it, I thought, huh, maybe there's hints, but after a re-read, I'm just like lol where people? Where? Because Sirius is a little shit and Remus kept to himself mostly (what with dealing with his werewolf issues) like...it's just not hinted at all. If I would assume anyone, it might have been James/Sirius (and that's only because they were very loyal to each other and I would think the feelings were more one sided than anything else).

But none of those are my ships so shrug.

Yup. I ship a one-sided James/Sirius where Sirius was in love with James (and maybe they experimented one time in school).

AYRT

see, that is something I could buy -- the one sided aspect on Sirius' part -- esp. maybe this one time during school, whatever. Sirius wasn't shown affection at home, and Jane's definitely was his best friend and family (and maybe ...see, I can roll with that for a second or two) and I say this as a Hermione fandom bicycle person/ the best person to ship Sirius with is me my OFC.

Obv JKR is problematic and all, but I hate how many people I've seen recently add queerbaiting into her list of sins while specifically referencing Sirius and Remus. Sirius and Remus were not queerbaiting, you just latched onto the first two unattached hot adult men in the series and shipped them. That fandom loved them does not mean JKR was required to make them a pairing and I never saw anything in the actual text that suggested she was trying to imply that they were.

"Queerbaiting" requires intent and I don't know or frankly care enough to deduce what JKR's intent with the whole thing was

But people who saw homo themes between the Marauders were not "latching onto the first two unattached hot adult men in the series", there are rich themes of emotional connection and intimacy between all of Sirius, Remus and James, which were at least as important for people shipping them as their hotness was

I ship them and I completely agree with all of this. They're basically the only two "good guys" alive which is why I assumed most people shipped them, but they have literally like zero actual implication and interaction that suggests that. I personally just like the dynamic the fandom made up for them.

Same here. It's one of the reasons Stony became my NOTP.
