You know, my take on passion projects is that if you get enjoyment out of it, it's worth it. I'm not talking about Hoarders stuff, obviously, but what's the harm in indulging your interests and enjoying something that entertains you? The enjoyment you get out of it is justification enough.

This :). And having a record of it all can be good for oneself, too-a reminder of some fun times you had, something to go back and revisit when you're having kind of a down day as a pick-me-up, etc. And it can be a great snapshot of how your time in fandom has evolved and changed, as well.

This is partly me - I have usb sticks full of fan songs, fan art, memes and links to fic recs on them because I like to look at them from time to time.
Also, most of them came from tumblr which can be really hard to find older works or anything specific you might remember seeing years ago due to accounts being deleted and a wack tagging system that selectively works (and that's in reference to anything pre 2016-ish; I'm currently in a fandom that took off a couple of years ago and its a pain trying to find anything from the beginning of the fandom unless you're willing to scroll forever to find anything).

I cleaned out my closet recently and found a couple of old floppy disks. I knew they were from my weeb days, but I couldn't remember what exactly was on them, so I got a converter and opened them on my computer. I had a ton of anime theme songs, various fanarts, all my old fics (including the ones I'd never uploaded), and screenshots of old forums and shrines. A lot of it made me cringe (especially the fic), but I had so much fun looking at everything and I FaceTimed a bunch of my friends to play them different songs and read them some of my old fic.

I completely feel you. These things make us human. And if in the very least, years from now when you no longer trawl those paths, you can look back, reflect with a small and have that tangible proof that you were there. And there's nothing wrong with those frivolous things that made you happy

Honestly, I wish I've done this a lot more. Between lost browsers and misplaced memories, there are a lot of times I've wanted to look back on over the years I've lived. Be it good or bad, reminiscence conquers all, imo.

I've gone back to login into so many dead accounts, if only because I love to see and experience what I've done and said once upon a time. Some of these conversations were the best I've ever had- others are simply a staple of the time- and either or, I adore all of them.
I wish I've saved so many more conversations, if only because I adore the ones I have. So there is literally no judgement, nor should there be, to reconcile or reminisce old memories. <3
