You know, my take on passion projects is that if you get enjoyment out of it, it's worth it. I'm not talking about Hoarders stuff, obviously, but what's the harm in indulging your interests and enjoying something that entertains you? The enjoyment you get out of it is justification enough.

This :). And having a record of it all can be good for oneself, too-a reminder of some fun times you had, something to go back and revisit when you're having kind of a down day as a pick-me-up, etc. And it can be a great snapshot of how your time in fandom has evolved and changed, as well.
