Most people in fandom already regard the canon ships as take it or leave it (and more often than not ‘leave it’), so I assume your gripe is with the public, and the common public attitude of, “The fans like to imagine X and Y together? Why ever would they do that? Oh, how strange and embarrassing of them! Don’t they know that’s not what the author intended?!”

Which, yeah, that’s annoying. But it’s the normies. They don’t get it because they’re normies. C’est la vie.
