I can agree with this to an extent. Most of my ships are non-canon, but a lot of them are what-if scenarios because either one is a villain or the two in question never meet in canon. Like one of my most favorite ships in atla is Zuko/Yue.

I can accept not everyone is going to agree with what I ship, or they'll think the canon ship is somehow superior. That doesn't make them any more correct than me because the author intended their ship but not mine. On the other hand, I think respect for the canon ship means not tearing it down or harassing fans of it just because it's not something I like. But it's a two way street and if we cannot coexist in the same sandbox, hopefully they'd have enough respect to leave me alone to do my own thing.
