I literally couldn't call a child any of my favorite names.

Girls - Phryne (it means 'toad'), Calliope, Perseides

Boys - Virgil

Yup.

I've always loved 'Armani', 'Nikki', and 'Tucker'. No real reason. Just think they sound cool.

Esther is such a cool name. But I don't really have a cool story to go with it. I do have a cool story about the name Karna, which goes:

When my mother was a teenager she went to visit her great-aunt Karna. Aunt Karna told her life passes by quickly, and when she was as young as my mother was, she couldn't imagine being an old women. My mother didn't think this was true, but as she grew old, she realized how quickly life had passed.

My mother told this story to me, when I was a teenager, and I didn't think life was short blablabla but now, twenty years later, I realize how quickly life has passed. I'm very sure at some point I will be old enough to tell a teenager this, who will then not believe it, but remember it when THEY are old. etc. etc. in a repeating cycle.

Also, it's a cool name.

Esther is an excellent name.

I love that story. You should definitely pass that down. I love that whole verbal connection to history.

My dad remembers his grandfather telling him about meeting some old men in a pub when he was a very young boy and those men telling him about when they fought at the battle of Waterloo. He passed on the story to me so I could tell me kids and grandkids, and stretch that living connection back several hundred years.

Esther was my grandmother's name, so I'm a little biased, but I think it's a gorgeous name.

Savannah

It rolls off the tongue nicely. It sounds pretty. Maybe it's a bit southern belle-ish (too many southern belle books as a pre-teen.)

I'm childfree so, I won't curse anyone with a three syllable name. My mother gave me one and I hate it. I gave myself a nickname of a reasonable two syllables and she hates that nickname and I'm like "then you should have gone with my middle three syllable name as my first name. Not sorry."

Instead, I gave the name Savannah to the main female character in my books. So. There.

I love the name Esmerelda, both the meaning (Emerald) and the connection to Granny Weatherwax.

I love the name Esmerelda too. No idea who granny Weatherwax is. I first heard the Esmerelda as a character in a book I read when I was a kid and thought it was really beautiful.

Granny Weatherwax is a witch in the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett. The Witches books are my favourite Discworld stories by far and Granny Weatherwax is my favourite Discworld character.

Discworld aside, it is just a really lovely name.

Noa, Valerie, and Emrit.

Noa, imo, reads very gender neutral in that the "gender" changes depending on the spelling: Noa is feminine while Noah is masculine; Noa is my preferred spelling.

Valerie sounds very strong and brave. It makes me think of someone who doesn't take anyone's shit.

Emrit, I don't think I'd actually use as a name per se? But it sounds cool. It's also the japanese name of the Pokémon Mesprit.
