I was so disappointed in how Irene was characterized and handled in general! You're right that her being fridged was pointless and that she could have had a cameo that made way more sense for the character. I thought these were really fun films overall but Irene's treatment was one of the things that bothered me a lot about them.

Comment OP here, and once I accepted that the writers did the lazy OOC thing and had Adler and Holmes be into each other, I enjoyed the movies. But I got mad that a) she was working for Moriarty and b) she didn't manage to outsmart him. I'm glad that she at least got the drop on Holmes, though.

I can't think of any adaptation that does Irene Adler any justice, but this one was pretty terrible.

Comment OP here--I've basically given up on ever seeing a canon version of Irene, and just tried to enjoy this version of her instead. She was smart and fun to watch at least, and then she was fridged. Which was totally unnecessary for the rest of the film to proceed as it did.

They literally gave her a life that revolved around Holmes so they fridged her to get her out of the way, instead of letting her be her OOC but fun self and go gallivanting off on a jewel heist or whatever.

the Jeremy Brett series did an excellent adaptation of 'Scandal in Bohemia' and the radio series with Clive Merrisson is excellent as well.

Yeah, I didn't like that either.

That's the point at which I stopped watching. I didn't even watch the rest of that movie.

LOL that Holmes and Watson get manly heroic poses and poor Irene is sitting like she just shat herself.

I agree with your secret. She looks lovely here, I would steal her outfit, but who had her sit that way? Who chose that awful pose?! Insult to injury.

Agree completely with this secret.

Thanks for turning my comment into a secret, OP!

there's been no version that manages to give a more interesting commentary on the original so i wish they'd stop using her in AUs until they can.
