I love seeing graffiti in media!

I get so excited trying to figure if scenes with graffiti are filmed on set or in a real place.

I live near a number of commonly used filming locations, and I sometimes fantasize about leaving a tag in one of those locations and seeing it appear on my favourite media.

Oh that's a rad idea!

I really enjoy street art, as an expression of the identity and energy of a place. I went on a walking tour of street art in Miami and it was the highlight of the trip.

Big same!
Damn, I remember the sights throughout Miami! (I used to take a cruise every other year out of there growing up) There are some amazing fresco's all over the city! I have the haziest memories of them being built up, but the end result is fantastic!

The movie Life Partners filmed some exteriors near where I work in Minneapolis, and I recognized some wall art and graffiti. I got excited because I wasn't expecting it going in, and then I was like, "Wait, I know that place!" /csb

Yess~!! That's my feel exactly! I was /so/ excited seeing art I recognized, it was such a weirdly surreal feeling. Like, it's probably just me, but recognizing such real life imagery in series that don't necessarily take place in our world/reality, is just the coolest thing imo!

I like street art too. Whenever I go to Melbourne I like taking pictures of some of the really impressive works you can find in the CBD.
I do recall that one TV show... Homeland, I think?... got in a spot of bother over some background graffiti written in Persian Farsi that basically translated as 'This Show Is Racist Fearmongering'.

Ahhh, I remember that. Kinda like the scene in Saving Private Ryan where the Czech soldiers are assumed to be German an are killed without mercy. Only with Homeland, it's the people behind the scenes making the statement that the show was too self-centred to even acknowledge.

Honestly, as much as this comes to mind in some of my fantasies- to make a statement with a spray can and some stealth... I really don't think I have to nerve to do just that.
I respect the hell outta those people who do though.

There was an episode of Ironside (the original with Raymond Burr, not the short-lived revival with Blair Underwood) in which Ironside became homeless as part of an undercover case. I'm quite certain it was shot at least partly on location because there was a scene in an alley where he was sitting in the dark with, among other graffiti, FUCK written on the wall.

Honestly, this is the biggest issue for me. Trying to figure out what is real and what's a set. I'm like the literal worst at searching for things, but the use of swearwords, different tags, art, and how clogged the walls happen to be tends to be the best inclination of where something is filmed, lest I recognize it.

I'd definitely think that wasn't a set for sure. I'm honestly surprised it got past the censors;; I am curious if you have a restored version or the original? I would assume they'd blur out the profanity if they caught it.

I saw this when it originally aired on broadcast network tv (NBC I think) in the late 70s. I don't know where it was shot on location, which is to say in L.A. where most tv was shot or in San Francisco where Ironside was set. Video editing wasn't at the level then as it is today, obviously, and when I saw it I'd guess there was at least one person in postproduction who noticed it, and who probably said nothing to the higher-ups because there was nothing to be done.

If you regularly tag things or do street art I mean....the idea is super cool though. I live in a place where a lot of shows and movies are shot, and sometimes I hope I'll get cast as an extra while walking down the street (not how that works) or just get caught while they're filming (some projects will have a disclaimer sign on the street stating that by walking down this street, you run the risk of being caught in a shot and are okay with it). Still hasn't happened -- that I'm aware of-- but hey.

Oh my god yess!! I mean I've never attempted street art before, because I know that certain types or tagging is representative of gang activity/territory. I'm unfamiliar with the tags, so I don't want to overstep a territory just to draw some art. Like I'm pretty sure it's illegal where I live anyways, so there're a lot of drawbacks on me actually acting on this fantasy of mine.
Being an extra is like I dream I can't even fathom! I'm short, so I'm mostly out when it comes to modelling, but I would like die to be chosen on set to be an extra, like no kidding!

But as a kid I'm fairly certain I was in a film, (aka me, and my family driving in our truck) as while we drove across a famous bridge. There was a huge camera affixed to a van, following a car, and it definitely wasn't the news. (though to this day I still have no idea what film that was, let alone they even kept the clip at all;;)

AYRT

Don't count yourself out of modelling just because you're short! There's plenty of commercial modelling that doesn't require you to be 5'7 and size 0 -- a lot of that tends to be editorial and runway, as the designers tend to use sample sizes and it's "easier to see the clothes" if you fill them a certain way -- no shade to anyone reading this who is 5'7 and size 0 -- that's cool too. Commercial and beauty (which doesn't ALWAYS mean you have to be conventionally beautiful) modelling don't always need those boxes checked, so go for it!

And as far as being an extra -- have you ever tried backstage.com? I did one commerical gig that didn't require a headshot (because those are kind of pricey if you want a good one) for an ad agency I found through the site. They have plenty of casting calls for extras (most of them ask for a headshot, fewer for a reel, I mean as an extra it's not necessary for you to speak most times).

I hope you find that film someday!
