Okay. You're apparently willing to twist yourself into pretzel shapes just to make excuses for this guy, who's making money off peoples' sick pets and selling them an expensive vial of mostly water. No matter how many other nice things he's done for cats, this isn't nice. Maybe you should ask yourself why you have to try so hard to rationalize this scam he's doing.

Philistar is right though. They're not supporting what he's doing or defending it, they're just pointing out that he's not doing this with manipulation in mind as a cash grab as he genuinely believes in what he's selling. It's just a statement, not an argument.

And that doesn't make it not dishonest. Look. Philstar is heavily biased in favor of this guy, that's why she's doing all these mental gymnastics to say sure, he's legitimizing pseudo science and making money off people by selling them overpriced placebo water, but gosh, he's really sincere!

This isn't rocket science, guys. If you sell useless medications to people whose pets suffer from respiratory problems, you're scamming them.

And here is where we differ on the definition of scamming. In my mind scamming requires a "knowingly" element. If someone doesn't know their product is a scam, if someone isn't lying and actually believes it, they aren't scamming. They may be stupid. They may be wrong. They may even be completely evil, depending on what the product is. But the definition of scam as well as the definition of dishonest both require lie in them. They require knowledge.

And for the record I'm okay with people thinking that Jackson selling this stuff means he's full-on bad and no one should ever listen to anything he says ever again. I don't agree, but I get that because homeopathy is bad and has done a lot of damage.

I just think that making it out as if he's willfully scamming and willfully lying and dishonestly selling product he knows doesn't work when he isn't isn't fair because it isn't true.

It's sad that you have to come up with your own special definition of scamming and lying just to rationalize his actions. To clarify, to tell someone a lie is to tell them something that's not true. It's got nothing to do with one's personal belief in the veracity of the thing that was asserted. He might not realize that he's lying (though frankly, even that is pretty damn weak) but he's telling people things that aren't true and he's making money from it. Shying away from calling it lying and a scam is you, defending your hero. I get why you'd want to do that - it's hard to rationalize when people we like and admire do shitty things. But it's still BS.

You've also changed your tune slightly. First you said it wasn't harmful, now you admit that homeopathy is bad and has done damage. Which is it?

It has done damage when taken instead of medicine. I'm not aware of any specific harm caused by any of his products, and he specifies that people must see vets for their cats. But yes there are people who will use this stuff and then not go to vets and so that does cause damage.

And I've never heard of a definition of lying that wasn't about the person saying it. Your definition is genuinely not one I've ever heard, so I'm honestly not sure where you are getting it from. Every definition of lie I've ever heard has always been about the person intentionally telling something false. If someone believes it, it is untrue, but it isn't a lie.

Where exactly are you getting your definition that would include people who believe what they are saying? I've never heard that one, and google seems to agree with me.

See #3. And #6. Intending to deceive is one definition of a lie. It's not the only definition. Jackson Galaxy is lying, and making money off his lies.

Okay. Agree to disagree then. I still think lying requires intent.

You should write in to the dictionary people and let them know they're wrong, then.

Found a whole interesting discussion on the different views on the definitions on lying, in case you are interested. There actually seems to be a big debate on this particular issue (whether intent is requires) as well as other issues regarding the definition.

No thanks. I have no need of tortured logic, because I don't make excuses for people who make money by selling products that don't work, regardless of what you want to call that.

Don't bother with OP, they have self-righteous bitch disease and need some hugs because Mummy and Daddy clearly didn't love them enough and also they probably whine about kids on Tumblr who dare to write anything not Morally Pure.

"I'M GOING TO THROW A FIT BECAUSE I'M A SELF-RIGHTEOUS BITCH WHO HAS SELF-RIGHTEOUS BITCH DISEASE AND NEEEEEEEEEEED TO BE RIGHT TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT MY POOR, PATHETIC SELF"

Shut the fuck up, OP, you need to shove a sock in it

dishonest: behaving or prone to behave in an untrustworthy or fraudulent way.

scammer: a person who commits fraud or participates in a dishonest scheme.

fraud: wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.

Note the word "intended." It has a very specific definition.

intended: planned or meant.

You cannot be a scammer unknowingly. You can fuck up and make mistakes. But scamming and swindling requires someone to know they're going that and saying otherwise tells me how much of a self-righteous prig you are.
