IME it's always a trope that has a ton of lip service... but almost always you only see het for some reason???

Character, almost always a girl: Oh I'm bi /Only ever dates men on screen and mentions she maybe has one ex-girlfriend who comes up once

Examples?

Because I can only think of two "Bi the Way" examples and neither of them fit your caveat. One is a guy who says he's a 3 on the Kinsey scale and date at least one man and one woman at different times, and there's no coming out story or issue with it. (I don't remember the character's name, but the series was Revenge and I didn't finish it.) The other is a woman who shows attraction to women and men constantly because she's just that horny, and only has a real relationship with one guy (The Good Place, Eleanor.)

Every other bi character I can think of has An Arc about being bi, so it's not just "by the way."

SA - also, from what I can vaguely remember of the Bi the Way page, a lot of the character examples... never really claimed they were bi. The examples were like "this girl described this other girl as 'sexy' one time so we can conclude that she's bi," but that's not any kind of attempt to have bi representation on the show's part, that's wishful thinking on the troper's part. I can't think of a character who's actually said "I'm bi" while never following up on showing it.

my probably controversial explanation thought on this: it's basically impossible to write a bi endgame because like it or not they're likely to only end up with one person, and thus one gender, and thus SOMEBODY's going to be left out
