Like, Diskworld is more fun, better written, politically insightful, and has more stuff. What it doesn't have is the "nerd from the suburbs saves the world from great evil" text.

TBF Discworld also doesn't have a bunch of big simplistic categories that come easily and quickly to hand. It's sort of a double-edged sword - because so much of HP is just archetypal and simple, it's really, really easy to use it as an analogy for things going wrong. But that's also why those comparisons are often so silly.

Whereas Discworld, which is much better overall, it's still much more difficult to use it as an analogy for things, because you don't have these big overarching simplistic categories like Ravenclaw and Slytherin.

"More fun" is so subjective though. I'd love to be able to get into Discworld because the stories sound amazingly creative, but I can't stand the constant barrage of wink-nudge humor that it uses as its storytelling style, so I've never been able to make it far into any of the books.

Are you talking about Hermione? Because Harry's the opposite of a Nerd. He's popular to the point of being infamous at times and is best at sports. Just because he has glasses, that doesn't automatically make him a nerd. He even becomes a wizard cop in the end.

He's the embodiment of "sad sack misunderstood child is really the chosen one(tm) in his true home." I sympathize with the whole idea that one's true family will come in with a magic something and pull one away from the muggles who just don't understand one's true calling. But Potter isn't original on that point.

Quiddich is a ridiculous plot conceit. It's classic example of Wesley Crusher syndrome where the new kid is just naturally better than people who have worked for years to be good at their roles. And the rules are just coincidentally written such that the thing that Harry is good at is the game-over winning condition.
