I don't like it applied to any kind of sexual work, not just m/m - we've got enough fucking Christian purity damage, it's just plain not cute or funny.

The /only/ time I've seen someone use this in the way OP seems to be implying was when the author was genuinely faithful and believed they were sinning by enjoying and writing m/m content.
You can bitch at a religious group all you want, blame the religion for all the harm and devastation it has caused over millennia of murder and indoctrination it's committed- but assuming that every individual is equally at fault, that they couldn't be a victim themselves is exactly the assumptions that lead to more hardships.
