What books are you reading this week?

Re: What books are you reading this week?

I'm reading A Timeless Christmas, which was published by Hallmark's publishing arm two years ago and they made it into one of their Countdown to Christmas movies this year. It's a time travel Christmas romance, so naturally I downloaded it when it came out, but I'm only getting around to reading it now, and only because I saw they had made it into a movie & wanted to read it before I watch.

According to my Goodreads account, I'm also reading 7 other books; The White Coat Diaries, Circe, a novella trilogy set in Eden Finley's Fake Boyfriend series, 50 Shades of Grey (again. For a book club this time, but the club meeting for it was July and I only made it halfway through, but would like to finish it again because I guess I love torturing myself?), Pride & Prejudice (again. For the same book club meeting in July. We were comparing and contrasting them. I only made it 16% into it, but I genuinely want to reread it.), The Duke & I, the first of Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series which is coming to Netflix on Christmas day, and the Zen of Zombie, which is a humorous self-help book that I was reading for, you guessed it, the same book club.

I actually haven't been able to finish a book since July and I'm disappointed in myself.

Thanks for asking, OP.

I'm reading The Glass Hotel by Emily St John Mandel and it's just not grabbing me like Station Eleven did. I rarely DNF a book these days and it's good enough to not make me want to do that but still.

I read the first two Alex Rider books this weekend and I skipped to Russian Roulette because I needed me some more Yassen after the TV series.

"The Spider Eaters," which is the memoir of a Chinese woman (now US citizen) about coming of age during the Cultural Revolution, how she was a very zealous Red Guard and then slowly became disillusioned with everything. I'm reading it because I have to write an analysis paper on it for a (zoom) class I'm taking on women in modern east Asia. It's really interesting but there was a part where she talks about how some revolutionary teenager killed her brother's cat because pets were "bourgeois" and I had to stop reading it and go hug my kitty because it was gross and sad.

I've been reading Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden because it was on an LGBT book rec list from forever ago. It's taken me a while to get through most of it - but it's not because of the story itself (I think it's alright so far), I've just been having trouble with focusing on books or reading material recently. I'm even having trouble with reading fanfics in one sitting - I use to be able to go through a load, but now I get about halfway through a one-shot and then read the rest the next day.

I watched Holidate last night.

It was Godawful.

TVMovieChristmas's review of it is pretty spot on.

I finished Alex Rider (TV series), and will likely be watching Paranormal (Netflix) because it popped up on my recommended and looks interesting.

Still working my way through Hell's Kitchen again as well.

Fandom nostalgia

[personal profile] nanslice 2020-11-17 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
The Yu Yu Hakusho secrets are making me so nostalgic for early 2000s fandom. Livejournal. Webrings. Manually updated websites and fanshrines. I know technically LJ still exists (and DW is right here!) but there's no pretending it's the same thing and honestly, fandom was so much more exciting back the (for ME; if you prefer today's fandom, I'm legit happy for you!).

Someone get in here and cry with me. ;3;

What Do You Have On Your Walls

(Anonymous) 2020-11-18 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
TBH, this is a very self-centered question, bc I need to get some wall decor or something in my new place and I have never felt comfortable about putting stuff on walls.

So - how do you decorate your walls? where do you go to buy stuff?

Yu Yu Hakasho ReWatch

(Anonymous) 2020-11-18 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
So all these secrets have made me want to rewatch YYH -- and maybe some of you too? Or maybe someone who has never seen it before wants to see the story of a kid who becomes a spirit detective (what's that? Oh, I guess you'll just have to watch ((because I really don't remember lol))???

Anyhow, I'm thinking it would be cool to have a discussion here once a week about the show.
You know -- we (as in whoever wants to, lurkers you too) watch idk...episodes 1-3 (or 1-5) and then discuss it on Thursday here? I've seen Untamed discussion here before and figured why don't we watch it (sort of) together?

If anyone is down (whether you can keep the commitment or not doesn't matter), comment below!
