I've been here years and it used to move SO fast some nights with the amount of comments.

I definitely comment off-anon way more than I used to because I was fearful of starting a fight even when I was trying to say something nice.

Yeah, this is my exact problem with busy comms. I just can't keep track of what's being said quick enough and always miss my chance to actually post and respond before everyone has already moved along. I'm always anon, so any argument I unintentionally instigated might already be in full swing by the time I realize it's happening.

I remember those days too, though I was only here for the tail end, I think. A more active community would be nice, but you're right... there's less noise now, for what it's worth. I also try to do my part by making secrets and I think most people appreciate the effort.

I thought I recognized some of the secrets as really old ones!

I used to submit secrets that were just off-the-wall enough to fly under the mods' radar but still enough to be kind of insane to be noteworthy. It was a tough bar to clear I tell ya whut

Iirc it was a lot of random trolling, picking fights, and making wild and incredibly aggressive accusations of various -isms. The later 2000s-early 2010s was the heyday of the actual "social justice warrior" who would carry out insane, possibly 100% trolling crusades against anyone they decided wasn't the epitome of late-2000s-early 2010s wokeness. If you weren't familiar with some word or concept they thought you should know it was dogpile o clock. We used to have a lot of that. I don't remember any particular user except one "chixbeforedix" but there were a lot of anons from those places doing this.

The heyday was way too much for me, but I do miss the level of activity of about six or seven years ago.

Was that during the biggest years of GoT? I don't remember any specific GoT secrets but I do remember lots of fighting over which characters were morally redeemable and which were just evil

Oh, I was never a co-mod or anything, just a somewhat active named user, and also I was like, 15 at the time, so I'm flattered whenever anyone recalls the goofy stuff I posted positively, haha. I wasn't on LJ or dreamwidth for a long time and don't have accounts on either anymore, but I occasionally keep up with f!s and comment on anon here. I'm glad I happened to see this secret.

I've submitted a handful of secrets this year for the first time since I was much younger, actually (only one or two had a little paint drawing though)! It's interesting what's changed and what's still kind of the same. Seeing old secrets and new responses to them is fun IMO.

Holy carp I had not really stopped to think about how long I have been (mostly lurking) on here until this secret and the discussion.
"Only a few years" in my head... but I guess it's been more like 10 years.

Also you guys with the memories to clock secrets that were posted years ago, way to go! I don't think I have (or would) noticed/notice.

But yeah, I feel like this site has been an almost daily ritual for me for a decade and I'm so glad it's still ticking.

(I'd like to see a come back of I'd Hit That Like The Fin Of An Angry Cod secrets, even if they were simple people put effort into those suckers and they always made me smile.)

I'm also forever surprised at people harassing ops. There's a reason it's a secret.
Back in the day there were actual different opinions and people were more laid back and fun. So fs seem friendlier and more close knit now due to this. Same opinions, values, etc.

Really? I remember getting dogpiled for a secret where I confessed to wanting to write a fic where someone was trans and being nervous about getting it right. I got comments along the lines of "You will NEVER understand what it's like to be trans so don't bother."
Guess who turned out to be trans?
