I ADORE U.N.C.L.E! <3 Especially Illya! The movie was what first introduced me too it and came across a few of the original books in a thrift shop and LOVED them! (Apparently they had a bunch more but literally only a day or two before some guy came in a bought them all;;) I haven't been able to catch the original show yet, but I was able to watch a few movies recently and fell in love all over again!

YES! My country showed reruns when I was little in the 90s and Illya was totally my fave. I rewatched as an adult and still loved the show and the character.

The movie did him so wrong though. It was fun in and of itself, but it was nothing like the show. Which is weird because I'm pretty sure tumblr would go nuts over someone like show!Illya.

Agreed. The movie shafted both of them, characterisation wise.

Hard third on that. The movie was fun, in its own way, but it was clearly by, about, and for other people than the show.
Can't believe instead of "partners who just respect the hell out of each other, work super well together, and are totally so in love *cough* professional they can live in suburbia together for an international peace-desiring spy organization in spite of their countries being at actual cold war" was somehow considered less cool than "let's have yet ANOTHER movie where a two guys go from enemies to colleagues; oh, and also rage issues / crime background for the dramas." Bah.

Yay! :D
That show is my never-fail brain candy. It is the bestest BEST thing, and those two partnering hard are my total faves :D

Are you me? Except I watched reruns in the 80s. It was on after the late news on Thursday nights. My dad would wake me after the news, I would watch my show and go back to bed.

Early in the pandemic I binged the whole series on DVD. I still love it. Illya is still adorable. My next pair of kittens is going to be named Napoleon and Illya.

YESSSSS LOVE THAT!

My mom grew up with MFU, with Illya being one of her youthful TV land crushes, and when I got into watching old re-runs he was also my absolute favorite, so it was something we got to bond over. We went and saw the movie, and it was fun, but we missed cute little TV Illya.
