Holy shit! I'm a casual fan too, and I had no idea they were so vile toward Steven. :( (I don't do fandom on Twitter in general. Something about the vibe there makes me uncomfortable... Clearly I'm not missing out on much.)

What... what is wrong with those people? Jesus Christ. If I was ever in the public eye I'd never have a twitter tbh, it just seems to give the worst people on the planet a direct line to be as shitty as possible to you.

I recognize Shane and Ryan from their Buzzfeed days, can someone catch me up on why people are hating on the new guy?

Shane, Ryan, and Steven Lim (from Buzzfeed's Worth It) created a company together. He made a comment a while back about being friends with people who have some....negative outlooks (homophobia, racism, that kind of thing) because he wants to try and help them change. People FREAKED OUT and dogpiled on him.

Even before that thought, Steven (and Ryan) get a lot more hate than Shane does because racism.

It's so fucking dumb, because those three are trying their best to be a positive, inclusive force on the internet.

No idea what the context here is (not in this fandom, not familiar with any of the people involved), but as a trans person this actually makes me insanely uncomfortable.

I don't think anyone (cis or trans) is obligated to publicly display their preferred pronouns on social media, and harassing a specific person to do so is way over the line, no matter what context there is. Like, I don't even always list my own pronouns publicly because it can be kind of uncomfortable for me, despite literally being trans. I can't imagine how uncomfortable it would be to receive this kind of pressure from strangers as a questioning or closeted trans person, and I find it pretty disrespectful to direct at a cis person as well (or an out trans person, or just... anyone).

Wow, sorry to go into it on a secret that I'm definitely missing context for, but again, whatever the context is, I find this kind of behavior very weird. I don't think it's any of my business whatsoever why a specific individual might choose not to do that.

+1 Hard agree. It's becoming a trend for other fandom spaces to force people to make their pronouns public (such as via Discord names, when signing up to group events, etc.) and it makes me so uncomfortable. I wish it wasn't such a thing in fan spaces and I can't imagine what this person is going through getting all this abuse hurled at them for something so completely unimportant.

yikes, those comments are unpleasant. Like what do they think, that putting pronouns in your bio vs not putting them in your bio is some sort of strict binary (lol) of being a Good Woke Ally tm and being a Vile Transphobe or something?? Sheesh.

Twitter is a cesspit in general. You should check out the fandom on tumblr instead, it's much better there. Fuck twitter and those people.

I’m not surprised but I really feel for Steven. He’s the odd man out and feels kinda weird to see him with Ryan and Shane who have had a solid working relationship for years now. I understand same workplace means interactions outside of what we see on Buzzfeed but...this is cringe. It’s not up to anyone to be badger to get you to tell them your pronouns, especially not fandom lowlifes with nothing better to do.

@.@ I'm trans, I get why making pronouns public is good to normalize, but oh my gods this is just... no
