My problem is that I take on traits of characters I focus on, and I always worry other people will realize I'm accidentally imitating a character. :/

I've done that before, but I don't think I necessarily get scared -- I mean maybe sometimes I'd be self conscious about it, especially because I start to wonderwho am I really-- but I like to look at as:
I like XYZ about character 1, 2, 3 and I want to embody those traits as well. And eventually, you kind of grow out of those traits or engrain them in a way that is your own. Hopefully, you'll see yourself as your own person and not just an extension of Character X (unless I'm projecting & misunderstanding, in which case, sorry!); I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to emulate traits you admire until they become yours in your own way as well. Dick Grayson will never be Batman. Neither will Jason Todd, Terry McGuiness, Tim Drake, or even Damien. But they all share elements of his. Sorry to get so sentimental lol
