I feel really petty about this, but...
I know you do not need fandom-related content, like ships and the like, from something to be able to enjoy it and appreciate it for just being good entertainment or art.
But my level of interest and dedication for something relies a lot on something having a fandom (especially ships) that I can enjoy.
How I said, I recognize it's really petty and silly, but it's what it's.

They were aiming for different things, at least up through HP book 4. You could argue that 5 onwards transitioned into more of a (shallow) commentary on fascism, but it was never as cynical and hopeless as Animorphs.
