I can tell you from first hand experience that being married to someone who loves you with all his heart isn't a picnic if his idiocy constantly creates problems for you that you have to solve, if you end up doing 99% of the emotional labor in your marriage, if you're always the responsible adult because your husband isn't, if he means well but somehow always screws up or drops the ball, etc. The anger and resentment builds to toxic levels, even if you love one another very, very much.

Because at the end of the day, the choice isn't between a competent bastard and a loving idiot, it's between a life with a partner who cannot/will not pull their own weight in a relationship and a life where you don't have to carry that extra burden because your "partner" isn't there for you.
