I certainly think the best thing to do in such a situation is to accept it and pass into the West and not to be an ass about it

I don't get this. It's normal to want to hang around people your own age. It's normal to want to engage in hobbies that bring you enjoyment. The idea that they should fuck off because they don't like new trends or hanging out with much younger people seems silly.

Fandom's part of my life and I'm not going anywhere. But after a weird experience in a teenager-dominated fandom earlier this year (the source media was targeted at adults so IDK what happened there), I've just decided not to engage with fans under a certain age anymore.

Was the fandom Hannibal? I've heard shit's gotten weird over there because of teenage invasion lol

The amount of times I've witness teens take adult-range shows/series and then act like anyone who is a fan over 20 is a 'creep' is ridiculous.
But also the fandom platforms are to blame - even when you're sure your mutauals are in the same age range, just tagging something under a fandom tag always gets some nosy person scrolling through come up in your space. Obviously not a problem on here or LJ (if it was as active as it use to be lol)
