(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)As an over thirty, I am not sure how they fan anymore entirely. Lots of images on insta and tumblr? Okay. Yeah. I'm on Tumblr, but fic gets no traction there. I haven't posted any fic to ff.net in ages. Have a friend posting said fic I'm posting on tumblr FOR me on AO3. (I need to get an account, if only to chuck my random silliness on there. My old stuff can stay on ff.net and rot I guess.)
The attitudes cycle and the attitudes are also seeping into traditional publishing. I got into a discussion with a young 20 some author who INSISTED if you were going to write traumatizing stuff you HAD to have a sensitivity reader. And I'm going "You know, sensitivity readers STARTED in 2010 right, and didn't really pick up any traction until 2015. Many people don't know what one is or HOW to find one AND on top of it, you're attitude reminds me GREATLY of those who insist on making authors out themselves to write XYZ, which leads to CENSORSHIP, see Strikethrough 2006."
That didn't go... over... well. "I don't know about Strikethrough." Me: "Oh boy. Um. I don't have the spoons today for this."
So, I kind of just do me, in my own corner outside of commenting here.
