Who made you first realise you weren't straight?

For me it was Lucy Liu in the Pink Panther dance scene in Charlie's Angels.

It was a long process, but it was Kahlan Amnell from Legend of the Seeker/Bridget Reagan her actress that finally had me starting to admit it to myself that I was bi.

Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones was my bi awakening. (And later, a very pretty flight attendant who gushed over my Studio Ghibli hoodie.)

Bi woman here. Waaaaay back in the day when I was a little girl about 5 or 6, a boy I was friends with had an older brother who had a Bettie Page pinup in his room, and I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world and wanted to marry her, lol. That was my first clue but of course at 6 years old in 1973 I had no idea what LGBTQ even was.

TMI?;;

I'm not sure exactly. I just never had interest in anyone growing up, aside from two crushes I had while in grade school. Even though one of them confessed to me I didn't pursue it since even though I was crushing hard there was no sexual attraction and the idea of a romantic relationship didn't appeal to me.
I was only in love with two people really in my life (my best friend and her boyfriend), but that was more about loyalty and respect than anything romantic. I would do anything for them, but I still never considered them romantically.

I had sex twice with two different people just casually and even that did nothing for me. I was probably doing it wrong, idk, but after living about twenty years and never being sexually attracted or interested in dating in any way I just figured it just wasn't going to happen and that lifestyle just wasn't for me.

(I do have another idea as to why and when, but this is long enough as it is;;)

A girl in my high school. She was new (so wow! new! in my tiny little 'knew all these people since Kindergarten town), and she always wore sweatpants that she pulled up to just under her knees.

She had the most amazing, firm, gorgeous calves, and I would just stare and stare at them.

Liv Tyler in the Aerosmith Crazy video, I enjoyed watching that way too much to think there wasn't something else up with that. And irl a really cute girl I was enjoying hanging out with one evening kissed me on the cheek and I really wanted to pull her back in and kiss her properly.

Weird case in that I realized I was asexual, not lesbian thanks to fandom.

As a child I'd kin Michiru Kaioh pretty hard and read a copious amount of Yuri manga, but Very Meh about Yaoi. I also thought anime girls were pretty hot and I just sat there waiting for my princess in a white horse to arrive for a while during puberty.
It never happened (maybe it should have but I was Too Dense? Maybe.) and I started realizing I just wasn't into sexual content (fanfic, porn doujinshi etc.) the same way most people seemed to be, and, in turn, could not draw or write it nicely. My asexual awakening process took like, twenty years, but here we are now.

For me, it was Bugs Bunny.

I'm not a furry, I swear to god. But when I was 5 or 6, I'd watch Loony Tunes and I thought he looked better as a girl bunny. This was when I realized that I was more attracted to women than men.

It wasn't so much a person as an absence of a person.

Friends of mine on IRC, known each other for years, really tight, got into a conversation about masturbation. "What do you think about when you masturbate?" And they were talking about this and I was sitting there going "Wait, people actually masturbate? Like... everyone but me apparently? I thought they just told kids that in sex ed so they wouldn't feel bad about trying it. ...Why?"

This was around the same time I acknowledged that I felt pretty much the same way I had for guys I had crushes on, for a queer female friend of mine who had admitted having a crush on me. I considered it, realized I was grossed out by the thought of actually being intimate with a woman, and as much as I liked her, it wasn't going to work out. (We are still friends though, thank goodness!)

...And then I started realizing I had never been interested in doing anything intimate with any of the guys I'd had crushes on either, and between that and the above IRC conversation... I was pretty relieved when I found out that asexuality was a thing and I wasn't just ... I don't even know, damaged?

Medical question

[personal profile] philstar22 2020-12-16 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I have a question. Is ibuprofen or naproxen going to be better for mouth pain? And what's the max dose of either I can take in the short term?

Re: Medical question

(Anonymous) 2020-12-16 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
I am not a doctor but I know my dental pain, lol. ibuprofen doesn't last as long as naproxin, so you have to take more of it over time if the pain is bad. The Mayo Clinic says this about naproxin:

"Adults—At first, 750 milligrams (mg) (taken as one 750 mg or two 375 mg tablets) or 1000 mg (taken as two 500 mg tablets) once a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed, up to a total of 1500 mg (taken as two 750 mg or three 500 mg tablets) per day."

I tend to stay away from ibuprofen as I have high blood pressure so I stick with Aleve (naproxin).

Really couldn't say, but this might help: https://www.drugs.com/medical-answers/naproxen-ibuprofen-difference-3117722/

Keep in mind they're both hard on your kidneys with long-term use or high doses.

Re: Medical question

(Anonymous) 2020-12-16 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
What type of mouth pain are you having? Like is is more of a general toothache, swelling, or something else entirely?

For Ibuprofen:
"The maximum amount of ibuprofen for adults is 800 milligrams per dose or 3200 mg per day (4 maximum doses)." I believe a regular capsule has 200mg, and an extra strength is 400mg.

More information here:
https://www.drugs.com/ibuprofen.html

For Naproxen:
"Use naproxen exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take this medicine in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Use the lowest dose that is effective in treating your condition." The dosages will vary depending on which brands you use, and for some reason (since I rarely use it myself) I couldn't find exact dosages. But I know my dad has taken 1.5-2x the proper dosage and not had any trouble, but this drug is generally more finicky than Ibuprofen.

More info here:
https://www.drugs.com/naproxen.html

Everyone does react differently so it's not an exact science to what will work better, though these are the symptoms each drug is listed to treat:

Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.
Ibuprofen is used to reduce fever and treat pain or inflammation caused by many conditions such as headache, toothache, back pain, arthritis, menstrual cramps, or minor injury.

Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.
Naproxen is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by conditions such as arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, bursitis, gout, or menstrual cramps. It can also be used to treat acute pain caused by other conditions not listed in this medication guide

You can also look here for a comparison of the two drugs:

Bad and Good

[personal profile] tabaqui 2020-12-16 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
So - bad: came home early, feeling ill. Feverish, abdominal pain. Guess that eating spaghetti squash noodles for three days straight is triggering my Crohn's a bit. BAH.

Good - i got some soap (Zum soap), and the two little free sample slices are making my bathroom smell SO GOOD - citrusy and spicy. Cannot wait to shower with the Anise/Lavender soap.
