Late night petty annoyances

(Anonymous) 2020-12-20 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really starting to hate terms like "boy mom" and (though I hear it far less often) "girl dad". It's just... why are people so goddamn DESPERATE to be special because they have a kid of one gender vs. another? Like there's something inherently magical about being the mother to a male child? It smacks of this weird tribalism.

I get that being a parent - especially if you're a woman - is highly undervalued and underappreciated. But I swear to god this is so annoying that I don't think it's a good solution. Particularly when I see a lot of super proud "boy moms" raising the next generation of oblivious misogynists who never learn how to do laundry or clean a toilet because their mommies and girlfriends always did it for them.

I've never heard those terms before, but that sounds very weird.

My petty annoyance is my timeline immediately running political jokes and memes into the ground, even when I agree with their point. Should Americans be getting more than a $600 stimulus? Yeah. Do I need to see the same joke 20 times in a row comparing it to every other famous minimal-effort example out there? No. Just shut up and take the money that's still, however minimal, fucking FREE MONEY.

Make less hackneyed and annoying jokes, yes

Shut up, no

Bold of you to assume that money is FREE...

I've never herd of that before, but I dont know a lot of parents of younger kids. What if you have a boy AND a girl? Weird.

Late night annoyance: finding an obscure show on YouTube...start watching it and end up really enjoying it... but then figure out only a few episodes were uploaded, not the whole series, and I'll likely never see the ending because the few available DVDs for it are expensive imports. :-/

That is one of the most annoying things, especially if the show is good! What show is it, if you don't mind me asking?

Oooof, that does suck, OP. :/

Oh

at first I thought "boy mom" meant an actual boy who's like, the caring and knowing one in his group of friends? Like has tissues and bandaids in his pockets in case his friends need them??

...Now that I read your whole comment I still prefer my version! though being caring=behaviour reserved exclusively for females is annoying shit

That is the cutest fucking thing, and I now desperately want this character to exist in a book or a show or something. <3

Gentle and nurturing male characters are a common staple in team anime.

I thought the same! Back in high school a friend and I "adopted"/called this younger student we tutored "our daughter". I was the dad (applying the girl dad term here your way), but I wasn't always around, which was why I was named the dad lol
