Music

My parents are buying me a new ipod as a thank you for taking care of the house for 3 months and also as a semi-bribe because we'll be caring for my sister's cat and dog after Christmas (she just called and told us today) because she and my brother-in-law want to go on a hiking trip post-Christmas, and that place won't allow pets.

Anyway, super excited because my ipod has seen better days on account of how often I listen to it. Every day. It goes everywhere with me. It is my primary way I listen to music. I hook it up in my car when I drive. I use it with headphones whenever I have a spare moment. I love it.

How do you most often listen to your music? What sorts of music do you listen to most often? Do you take your music with you? Do you find yourself wishing life had a soundtrack like I do?

I either play music on the computer or on my phone with a bluetooth speaker. In the car, I either connect my phone or my old school iPod.

SO much soundtracks (video game, movie, anime, other cartoon, musicals), world music, and stuff from the 1950s-2000s.

I've been listening mostly to Celtic Christmas music this last month with bits of other Christmas music and non-Christmas music.

I love soundtracks. I think they make up at least half of my music. I listen to stuff from a lot of eras too. I have lots of music in different languages. Especially Spanish because I'm trying to learn, but plenty in languages I don't remotely understand just because they sound pretty.

Oooo, I love Celtic music. Celtic Christmas music is so pretty. Do you have some particular favorite songs or artists?

I don't have any favorite artists for Celtic music so far, just a bunch of random collections. Jeff Victor shows up a lot in my Celtic Christmas playlist, though.

Well... right now, I primarily listen to music when I'm working in my apartment, so I play it on my laptop speakers or headphones. In ordinary times, I also listen on the bus on my phone, but I haven't ridden the bus since mid-March. I usually don't listen to music if I'm just walking around, I kinda like to hear the world around me.

Also, I mostly use Spotify, because the collection is just so vast and I have a crapload of playlists from tons of different genres. Even for more recent stuff that I actually own, I mostly listen on Spotify so I don't have to worry about transferring files between devices or whatever.

Spotify is pretty nice. They have some great playlists. It is just a lot of the stuff I like isn't actually on Spotify. And I like to have more control over what I'm listening to than Spotify gives me. But it is a pretty awesome site nevertheless, so I totally get why people love it. I do use it sometimes, like I'll put a playlist on while I'm taking a bath.

I do listen when I'm walking if it is safe, but I keep the volume low enough that I can hear if someone needs to talk to me. And I still pay attention to the world. I just have a soundtrack to my walk.

To be honest, I don't really trust most of the Spotify playlists (with a few exceptions). What I really value about it is the number of nooks and crannies you can poke around in - older music and music from around the world especially. There are so many different things that you can find and get into really easily that I would never be able to really listen to otherwise, just weird forgotten or unknown stuff. That's what I really value about it.

That totally makes sense. They do have a lot of stuff.

My sister put me on her Spotify Premium and it's changed my life. I listen to it primarily on my phone or laptop. I listen to it when I do almost anything. I listen to it when I write, run errands or do chores around the house. I've been listening to a lot of pop and R&B, indie rock mostly from the 2000s, punk/alt rock mostly from the 90s; top artists currently Christina Aguilera, Shinee, Madonna (especially 90s era Madonna), Veruca Salt, Janet Jackson, Charlie XCX, Megan Thee Stallion, Rooney, Franz Ferdinand, Calvin Harris, Frank Ocean.
Yes, spend my entire life thinking about music I wish would play as I live life. LOL

These days, I’m listening to a lot of random videos on YouTube with titles like “Dark Gothic Music of Old Ruins”. It gets me in the mood to write my current WIP.

When I’m doing chores or just want to have music on in the background, I listen to BTS, My Chemical Romance, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Rise Against, and Green Day.

Yay for a new iPod :D! That's cool. I hope all goes well with your cat and dog-sitting.

As for your questions, I tend to use Spotify most often when listening to music. When I'm not using that, though, or I flip through the Music Choice channels we've got on our TV, or listen on YouTube, or watch MTV Classic.

And then if I'm in the car, I'll either listen to the radio or play a CD if I'm in the mood for one (we don't have a thing to set up phone devices and such).

I like a variety of music, but most of what I tend to listen to is oldies (stuff from the '50s and '60s), a lot of alternative rock, pop, stuff like that :). And yeah, I do love to take music with me when I'm able. Always makes a drive better when you've got your own playlist to enjoy.

I like to think in some ways life does have a soundtrack-all the music that's special to us and is tied to certain moments in our lives would count. But yeah, if we're talking soundtracks in the "movie/TV soundtrack" sense, that could be a lot of fun. I've always felt that'd be a fun job to have on a TV show or movie-if I can't write the story, I'll happily pick the music :D.

Music used to define my life. I would listen to it all day everyday. It's a defining hallmark of my depression that I don't want to listen to it most of the time anymore.

I love music but I rarely branch out into new music, so most of my taste is noughties or earlier. We were at the store the other day and the girl working there was playing her spotify list of modern stuff and I really liked it. Wish i'd thought to ask her what it was.
