Spent an hour at the dentist getting my permanent crowns put in. Not as bad as the previous appointment but still not fun.

Now I'm resting. Was going to nap, but dad's practicing piano, and kitty decided to take a nap on my bed. So can't close the door. She's cute, though, so don't have the heart to kick her out.

The lawyer who sometimes sends me work is sending me some work to do this week, which means some money, which I desperately need. I honestly don't mind working Christmas week anyway. So happy about this. It isn't a full time job, but it is something.

My burn seems to be doing fine. I slept wrong and fucked up my neck. Had a heating pad wrapped around my head all day. Also getting pissed off because people at work are not answering emails, texts, or calls AND I NEED TO GET THIS SHIPMENT FIGURED OUT.

Not too bad, could be better but could also be a lot worse. I found flour tortillas at the store that are very high in fiber and have done amazing things for my digestive system (Mission Carb Balance tortillas, 15 grams of fiber each which is AMAZING if you're adding fiber to your diet), so that's good news. My brother texted me this afternoon and said he'd gotten and loves the Christmas gift I sent (I sent meat from a specialty butcher, bro likes to BBQ). Tonight for dinner I'm making a baby spinach salad with seared scallops and a simple balsamic vinaigrette, and afterwards my husband and I are going to walk around the neighborhood and look at Christmas lights (there are quite a few houses with elaborate displays up). I'm thinking of making some mulled wine to take with us while we walk.

I'm in a weirdly good mood and really wish I knew why for future reference. Lol. Hmm... anyway, maybe related, I really love colder weather and getting to wear sweaters. I feel so much more comfortable having my arms completely covered for whatever reason - I can't do it the rest of the year because of the heat. It's nothing related to shame or any sort of issue like that; I just genuinely feel better having cloth loosely wrapped around my arms, kinda like a blanket. But I also really love how big baggy sweaters look too. So cute! Just love my new one with a polar bear design so much.

My body, especially my back, hurts all over because yesterday I went on a mad gift hunt for my family, and had to carry all the gifts around.

But today I was able to relax, clean my room, go for a swim, and even get some art done while playing some games. So I'm in a good mood!

I am sick (not Covid, don't worry) and in a great deal of pain. Also, despite the fact that I've only been awake for 6 hours after having spent the majority of the previous 20 hours asleep due to massively over-exerting myself yesterday morning, I am still exhausted and will probably be going back to bed within the hour, because apparently I have Sleepy Bitch Disease.

I've got a bunch of things to do, but mostly I'm in "hurry up and wait" mode. It's frustrating because I don't feel like I can start anything until other things are done, but those things are TOMORROW!

Working 10-hour days so I can get a normal paycheck this week (I don't get paid holidays) while getting very little sleep because I am so darned close to finishing this fic that's been eating my brain for two weeks. (Am rather proud that I managed about 44k words in two weeks, but I'll see what I think when I stop writing and go back to actually read it, hahah.)

I'm thinking it may not happen this week though because between work, my chronic health issues, and trying to write, I'm not getting any sleep and I keep just staring at the text and trying to remember what I was going to type next. -_- All day during work I was trying not to go unconscious... so even though I'm at the actual climax of the story I dunno if I can stay awake.

Also my Animal Crossing island has a meteor shower and I'm trying to make sure all my friends know so they can come by and stuff, and they keep asking if I have particular DIYs and I'm really not focusing at all, hahah.

Crappy. I'm still spotting but I might also have some kind of infection going on, and I really, really don't want to go to the doctor in person right now. ICU capacity for the whole southern half of my state is at 0%. I'd have to take public transit and time off work to go.

On the other hand I have a job and wouldn't be fired for taking a day off, so it could be worse.

What pieces of media depict romance well?

Not necessarily just your 'favorite' per say, but rather what movies/shows/books/et cetera do you feel explore romantic love 'with an authentic voice' or 'realistically' in your opinion?

It's sad that I can't think of any. :-/ IDK, either my standards are too high or I've simply never found anything that reflected my own experiences regarding love.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer- the Willow/Tara is a great depiction of someone discovering their sexuality at the same time they are falling in love. I think it was portrayed pretty realistically.

Stargate: SG1- the Sam and Jack relationship I think is a great depiction of two people falling in love who can't be together. I think they did a good job precisely because it wasn't front and center all the time. They didn't make a huge deal about it. It was just there, part of who the characters were.

Deep Space Nine- The Jadzia and Worf relationship was a great example of two people falling in love because they bonded over shared interests and also of two people falling in love during war. Their relationship was always very believable to me and my favorite of any in the entire Trek franchise.

Criminal Minds- I think JJ and Will are a great example of a romantic relationship between two people with full time jobs in service fields. I appreciated that they stayed together when a lot of times shows have these type of characters divorce (see: Hotch). They were able to maintain balance in their lives, have a healthy relationship, and take care of their kids. They made it work, and it was great to see that.

I liked the pretty organic transition from mutual antagonists to soulmates in The Untamed. Even though it all had to be done without actually putting it into words.

And The Winner Is Love (it's a c-drama).

It kinda hits the "two nice young people meet and mutually crush on each other" and then there's this whole reality ensues deal, where one is very young and sheltered and the other is a mass of anxiety issues (and there's outside conflict) and they do lots of foolish and idiotic shit and it just...

I also have been young and idiotic and stressed and Everything Felt Very Big, so even as I wanted to bang their heads together the whole thing felt very real.

For me, personally, this Bollywood film call "Saathiya" has always kind of hit on a really real note about romance, especially being from a working class Southeast Asian background. I've had run-ins with unexpectedly falling in love and though I didn't get married there were periods of not really being in touch with my family. Also, the ups and downs of being in love.

Also, the marriage between Marge and Norm in the film Fargo feels like an authentic depiction of romance. They support each other and their life may seem mundane but given the chaos of the world sometimes the mundane shit is what keeps everything in perspective.

What pieces of media are genuinely scary?

As something of a flipside to the above thread, what movies/shows/books/et cetera do you feel capture an essence of horror by offering a 'true sense of terror' for the audience? (It may or may not be in the horror genre, of course! There's plenty of drama and sci-fi flicks that I've found far creepier than anything labeled as such.)

The decade is coming to a close, and as such, I began to wonder, are there any posts that will always say with you? Whether you considered them to be the "best" or "memorable" -- be it for good reasons or bad -- what are some posts that really have stuck with you or get a laugh out of you even now? They can be recent or go as far back to 2010. I honestly don't remember how long I've been here myself, in and out over the years, but, please feel welcome to share!
