Just slightly off. The sun never came out, and it started snowing in the afternoon. It was just me and one other person in the office today. My desk is by a wall of windows, and it was just eerily quiet both inside and outside. Nothing bad happened to me, it was just odd.

Submitted another grad school application and finished a fic for an exchange, so I’m pretty pleased with my vacation productivity.

Buuuut I’ve also been binging ten+ year old snarky recaps of Sweet Valley High etc. books. It’s like being 12 again, except I never realized how dark these books were before. It’s amazing.

Terrible. I feel absolutely miserable for two TMI reasons but nevertheless had to be helpful and social and also get work done.

Oh, I love receiving open hostility from my mother and her second husband, complete with him muttering "fuck you" under his breath-- but he's half-deaf so he has to say it louder and I end up hearing it anyway!

I over did it in physical therapy today so I am hurting. And when I was trying to load the dishwasher, I had a spasm and a plate slipped out of my hand and broke. But on the upside my husband is making dinner and I am going to drink a glass or two of really tasty red wine tonight.

Kinda not bad actually! The nausea/reflux that has been making me completely nonfunctional for the first half of my holiday break lessened somewhat so I could actually do things that did not involve writhing in misery in bed with one hand shoved into my gut. So I walked the trails at the park! I drew illustration for the fic I rammed my way through in about two weeks (and am now afraid to post but at least I channeled my excitement about it into art, and got to share that with friends who won't ever read the fic because they don't know the canon, but they can appreciate a pic)! I ate a couple spoonfuls of peanut butter and 6 hours later am not too miserable to move!

And I'd planned to coordinate lucky eggs with some local folks in Pokemon Go so we'd level up friendships with double XP tonight. That went well, plus spotlight hour was double evolve XP AND featuring Snover with nice big targets to hit excellent curveballs, so basically I made 400k XP in an hour and am only 600k away from level 42. :D

Also I had a craving to kiss some bunny ears and so I did. Not that I can't do it anytime I want because I live with four of them but the fact I *can* do it anytime I want is good. ;)

apparently just as shitty as everyone else's. we've got a snowstorm coming in (9 inches at least, just started snowing an hour ago) so literally everyone in the city decided they really need an extra loaf of bread at the same time, while I had put off my biweekly groceries until today because it's the only day I had free to do said groceries...

fuck holidays entirely, fuck snow, and fuck people who still want to just pop off to the grocery store on a Tuesday before a storm during a pandemic.

Not too bad, just tired. I've had an idea brewing for a one shot and was going to write it today, but I think I'm just gonna go to bed early instead.

It was a crying at the desk day. The social isolation has really worn me down (I've been back at work for months, but few other people are and I'm alone on my floor) my mom's health isn't great, and I didn't get to visit her or see anyone at Christmas and Thanksgiving.

I'm just so mentally exhausted. I've watching clips of Say Yes to the Dress on Youtube for the past two hours. I never watch that show. Well, rarely. Usually not my thing. Not sure why exactly I'm watching it today except for some reason Youtube recced one clip and I got sucked in. The past couple of weeks have just been so draining. And today was exhausting too until the past couple of hours. I'm finally getting a little bit of me time. And this is how I'm using it.

I planned on putting music on my new ipod with my free time. Found out I couldn't transfer straight from my old ipod. Tried to find a program to do it, found out my old ipod is too old for any of those programs to work. Got frustrated. Went on Youtube and here we are.

Also, maybe I should feel bad for saying it, but I miss isolation. I miss everyone being gone. My parents seem to think I'm relieved to have them back? And sure, I thought I'd be relieved to not have all the house responsibility. Except I somehow have more responsibility with them back since they've come back unable or unwilling to do a lot more than before, plus I'm doing stuff for sister and brother-in law. Not to mention them being here and then leaving their pets while they go off on a trip has been exhausting physically and mentally as well.

I actually forgot to take care of myself and my own health because of all the other stuff. Forgot some of my meds and am paying for the consequences now.

It's been cold and I'm worried that it's gonna be colder tomorrow because I keep putting off making a journey to the launderette with a load of laundry that needs to be done, but I also really don't want to carry it all the way there and potentially have to wait outside since no more than 3 people can be in the launderette. So I'm not looking forward to it.

Favorite AUs

(Anonymous) 2020-12-30 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Inspired by secret#1 (sorry OP)

Do you like AUs?

What kind of AUs do you LOVE?

What kind do speed away from, never looking back?

I love mafia/gangster AUs and I don't understand why. I also like biker gang AUs, and even some well done businessman AUs. Basically, the types of AUS that allow my fave MC to be a (possibly unrepentant?) Bad Man (TM)/BAD BOY (TM). I also surprisingly like political AUs. I once read a great one...I think it was a Sess/Kag one. Delicious.

What about you?

I like what if AUs that alter a single element of canon and ask what would have happened if that one thing had been different. Like, what if Boromir had survived? Or what if Sirius had kept Harry and not gone after Pettigrew? Or what if Dawn had died instead of Buffy at the end of season 5? Things like that.

A good, creative author can make a really good fic out of something like that. This will always be my favorite type of AU.

I do like the turning of mundane fandoms into magical/supernatural/scifi, when done right.

Or turning a fantasy fandom into a scifi or vice versa. There are some great Middle Earth as scifi fics out there.

I used to like Hogwarts AUs, but now I'm not into Harry Potter.

I don't know that I've seen this, but I like the idea of ATLA magic AUs where characters are given elemental magic.

Superhero AUs can be decent when done right. But there are also lots of bad ones.

Dragon AUs. Adding dragons improves anything.

Time Lord AUs, again if done right.

Medieval AUs, again if done right, better with magic added always.

Hate: High school, coffee house, magical fandoms made mundane, historical fandoms turned into modern (especially Tolkien fandom Modern AUs, ugh), regency AUs because not my favorite history era and overdone.

Regency. I am such a cynic in real life but a man in breeches and a women in an empire waisted dress makes me swoon.

I love magical or supernatural AUs for canons that are not magical at all. And I love the type of AU that changes one detail of canon and lets the rest spin out from there.

I hate high school AUs in any form.

Supernatural, magical, sci-fi and superhero AUs are fun.
Also the 'normal everyday life' AUs for some fandoms are fun, like 'Bucky the ER doc meets Steve the superhero', that can be cool.

Not too big on 'period' (Regency, etc.) AUs, 'cause usually there are too many anachronistic bits that bug me.

I have never read - but would love to read - a Ren Faire AU in my preferred fandoms (well, I think a couple SPN ones after the LARP episode at the Faire, but other than that...).

Re: Favorite AUs

(Anonymous) 2020-12-30 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I like lots of AUs. Mostly because I like genres and pulpy fiction and formulas and a lot of AUs operate on the logic of genre. So pretty much any kind of well done pulpy fiction AU - whether it's science fiction or fantasy or crime or mystery - that's really good.

Also, historical AUs, especially ones with ahistorical acceptance of homosexuality.

Inspired by #2 - What is Your Least Favorite Xmas/Holiday Movie?

(Anonymous) 2020-12-30 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I get bored with most versions of A Christmas Carol (with the exception of the Muppet version, but that's mostly because I like the songs in that movie)

Also; it's not so much hate, but the overwhelming plot hole of Rise of the Guardians tends to bug me whenever I've watched this movie.
Like no way does the entire world celebrate Christmas and Easter for Santa and the easter bunny to exist on that team. The Character designs are cool tho.
