I never even HEARD of Hetalia before FS, but today I found out it's about WWII and my country isn't even a character. The Netherlands were occupied by Germany and during the occupation over 250.000 Dutch people died, a lot of which during the famous last winter (the Famine Winter) - but we're not a character? WTF? We're not hot enough or something? So now I adjusted my opinion from 'don't care' to 'stupid'.
But hey, it's just a comic. I don't get how people can get so worked up about it.

It's a gag comic, that is sometimes about WW2, usually when Germany and Italy are about.)

It is not a 'lets re-tell the history of WW2 with the countries represented as people!!' Maybe it will be eventually, but it's not at the moment.

It's mostly strips about random historical/cultural trivia. Like the different usage of the word rubber in America and England. Or Hungry being the biggest distributor of gay porn etc. etc. Or relationships between different countries during different times, I know medieval England has been in it, as has Rome.

Also, it seems he (the author) has a character in mind for The Netherlands, as he is on the character color chart, which is more than I can say for my country.

I'm not going to say don't be offended, but you seemed to have a slight misconception about it.

I wish people read this instead of the "Hetalia is about WWII" explanation.

Holland´s shadow appeared in one strip, in which he beats up Finland and Sweden. The author explains this as a reference to "New Sweden", a swedish colony in America. Look for the "Battle for America" strip.
